Enersea designed a modular, advanced Cable Installation System (CIS) for DEME’s DP3 vessel Viking Neptun. The CIS enhances Viking Neptun’s cable capacity, adding 8,000 tonnes on deck, complementing the vessel’s existing 4,500-tonne below-deck capacity, crucial for the expanding offshore wind market.
To allow the vessel’s cranes to install all parts of the CIS with minimal lifts, Enersea designed the system as eight modular skids, each weighing 20-100 tonnes and equipped with essential equipment like tensioners, winches, and integrated power supplies.
Enersea designed a bolted connection, replacing traditional welding, to allow for swift mobilisation and demobilisation. Thick connection plates were strategically welded to strongpoints on the vessel deck, enabling easy attachment and removal of skids.
The Viking Neptun, now one of DEME’s most versatile vessels, is equipped to handle cable laying, offshore mooring installations, and subsea operations, supported by 100-tonne and 400-tonne cranes.
